Frequently Asked Questions

Zakat & Fitr Campaign

Could you explain how to calculate Zakat with an example?

Assuming a person met their basic needs. One year later, they had £3.800 in money, 50g of gold (22k), £1.250 in savings.
50g of gold itself is not a entitled amount for Zakat. However, collectively, all means exceed the quorum (threshold for paying Zakat) and hence the person has to give Zakat.

The Zakat calculation in the given scenario is as follows:

Calculate the gold amount: 50g x £50.15* = £2,507.50
Accordingly: £3,800 + £2,507.50 + £1,250 = £7,557.50. From this amount, %2.5 needs to be paid as Zakat.
This means  £7,557.50 x 0.025 = ~£188.94 paid for Zakat.

The gram price of gold should be determined according to the date when Zakat is paid.
* Gram price of 22k gold on 12/03/2024 in the UK was £50.15

What is the amount of fitra?

In a Hadith, it is stated what amount and how much of the amount will be given. However, since there was a difference in the scales at that time and a change in the use of the goods, Islamic scholars state that the Fitra amount of today should be at least one person’s daily food needs.

The amount calculated for this year is £12 per person.

Zakat in the Quran

In the Quran, in 30 verses, the worship of zakah is mentioned with the word “ zakat ” and payment of zakah is ordered. However, in 14 verses the word ” charity ” is mentioned. Some of them are meant by zakat;

“Take charity from their property; with it you clean them (from sins), purify and glorify them. And pray for them. Because your prayer is calm for them (calms them). Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.”

(The time of repentance, 9: 103)

“Here you are called to spend in the way of Allah. Some of you are stingy. But whoever is stingy is only stingy. God is rich, and you are poor. If you turn away from Him, it will bring you a society other than you, and they will no longer be like you.”

(Surah Muhammad, 47:38)

These three verses are proofs that zakah is an obligatory worship.

“Do the prayer, give the zakat.”

(Surat al-Baqara, 2: 110)

“Get zakah from the property of the believers so that you can clean them and increase their property.”

(The time of repentance, 9: 103)

“Pay for the product on the day of harvest.”

(Surat al-An’âm, 6: 141)

Zakat in Sunnah

The following hadiths are proofs that zakah is obligatory:

“Islam is built on five fundamentals. One of them is to give zakat.”

(Bukhari, Iman, 1,2; Muslim, Iman, 19-22; Tirmidhi, Iman, 3; Nesei, Iman, 3.)

Our Prophet (saas), Muaz b. When Cebel (ra) sent him to Yemen as governor, he said the following words:

“Let them know that Allah Talala made them think of zakah. Take zakat from their rich and give it to those in need. “

(Bukhari, Zakat, 1; Abu David, Zakat, 5; Nesai, Zakat, 46; Ibn Mace, Zakat, 1.)

For centuries, all mujadid scholars have agreed that zakat is a supposed worship. Zakat is a financial worship that every Muslim who is a taxpayer must give once a year. It is for this reason that anyone who denies Zakat is obligatory comes out of religion . Undoubtedly, it is the sinner who accepts the obedience of zakat without any doubt.

To Whom is Zakah?

Intelligent, perceived maturity, Muslim and free, more than their basic needs and debts, they assume a man and woman who have a proportion of property assets over a year.

Who Is Zakat Given?

“Charity (zakahs) are reserved as a fard of Allah, but only to the poor, to those who are to be warmed, to civil servants (who are collecting zakat), to those whose hearts are to be warmed (to Islam), to those who try to jihad in the way of Allah, and to passengers. God knows very well, has wisdom. “

(The time of repentance, 9:60)

According to the case-law of the ulama, zakat can be distributed equally to the eight classes in the verse or it can be given to one or more classes according to the conditions.

Zakat and fitrah are not only the right of the poor, but there are other groups that are entitled to Zakat. Therefore, a fair distribution must be made among the understated. The practice of zakat is considered as a social worship in the history of Islam. Therefore, a social organization was deemed necessary to prevent the personality of the poor and other needy people from being offended. This social organization is also a task, as mentioned above.

Therefore, to students in need of higher education and other students who study; The religious and cultural education of our children in Europe; service works carried out to support education; the poor, widows and orphans who have no income, and those who have been on the road; poor patients who cannot be treated due to financial difficulties; schools, foundations and hospitals in need; to victims of natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods; To those in need who serve Islam and Muslims; Due to the wars, the expenses of all institutions and all charity groups are spent on the need of all institutions and people who are victims and victims and immigrants.

Goods Subject to Intelligence

It is permissible to give the zakat of gold, silver, agricultural products, pets and commodities in their own kind, as well as to give them on their assets.

The purpose of zakat is to meet those needs of those in need. Zakat can be paid from the goods subject to zakah, and it can also be provided by valuing the goods that are often subject to zakat and those in need meet their own needs.

Virtue of Zakat

Zakat means thankfulness to the blessing of wealth bestowed by Allah (swt). Just as zakah does not decrease the goods, on the contrary, the zakah goods are abundant and increased. A person who went bankrupt because he gave charity was not encountered. The Quran declares this as follows:

“If you are thankful, I will definitely increase the blessings I give.”

(Surat al-Ibrahim, 14: 7)

“[…] Those who give zakat have certainly rewards in the presence of their Lord […]”

(Surat al-Baqara 2: 277)

Hz. The Prophet (saas) said:

“Protect your property by giving zakat, treat your illness by giving charity, be prepared with prayer against the troubles that will come.”

(Taberani and Abu Nuaym al-Hilye)

“Clean your goods by giving zakat (flour).”

(Lebanese Hadith)

The Verdict Of Not Providing Zakat

Failure to exercise Zakah causes both worldly and peripheral punishments. The following verses and hadiths point to the earthly harms of not exercising zakat.

Verses:

“Those who show stinginess of what Allah has given to them (in disbelief) should not think that he is good for them; on the contrary, this is very bad for them. What they are stingy will go around their necks on the Day of Resurrection. The legacy of the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. God is aware of all you do.”

(Surat al-Imran, 3: 180)

“Have you seen the religious denier? Here he pushes orphans; does not encourage the poor to feed; Shame on those who pray, they do not take their prayers seriously. They are showing off, and they will stop good.”

(Surat Mahogany, 1-7)

Hadith-i sheriffs:

“If charity (zakat) is involved in a good, that property will be destroyed.”

(Beyhaki)

“Whoever does not give the zakat of the good, Allah (cc) will remove his protection from his good.”

(Lebanese Hadith)

We can summarize the warnings understood from the verses and hadiths mentioned above:

1. In the zakat, if Allah’s order is reversed and stingy, Allah (cc) is said to take this duty from us and give it to another society.

2. It is stated that whatever zakat is involved in, it will destroy it.
